TL;DR

TankMate does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal data. Everything you enter — tanks, fish, logs, water readings, reminders — is stored only on your device.

What we don't do

• We do not require an account or sign-in.
• We do not collect analytics, telemetry, or crash reports.
• We do not use third-party advertising, tracking, or marketing SDKs.
• We do not sell or share data with anyone, because we do not collect any.
• We do not access your contacts, photos, camera, microphone, location, or health data.

Data stored on your device

The following information is stored locally using Apple's SwiftData framework and never leaves your device:

• Tanks you create (name, volume, water type, temperature range)
• Fish you add to your tanks (species data and quantity)
• Maintenance log entries (feeding, water changes, filter cleaning, water tests, notes)
• Water parameter readings (pH, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, temperature)
• Reminders you schedule
• App preferences (units, notification toggle)

You can delete all of this at any time by deleting the app.

Notifications

If you choose to create a reminder, TankMate will ask for permission to send local notifications. These notifications are scheduled and delivered entirely on your device by iOS — nothing is sent to a server. You can revoke this permission at any time in Settings → Notifications → TankMate.

Network access

TankMate makes outbound network requests for two purposes only:

1. FishBase species data — fetched from fishbase.ropensci.org and a mirrored copy on raw.githubusercontent.com. These requests do not include any personal information.
2. Fish images — loaded from FishBase's public catalogue.

If you are offline, the app falls back to a bundled species list and continues to work normally.

Children's privacy

TankMate does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children. The app is rated 4+ and is safe for children to use.

Changes to this policy

If we ever change this policy, we will update the effective date above and post the new version at the same URL.
